During the past academic year, three of our students spent nine months in the United States. They attended local high schools and had the opportunity to fully immerse themselves in American culture. It was quite an experience!
The students are Angel Lee, Kristy Chan, and Marquise Li.
This English programme is another alternative for the senior-form students to enhance their English language skills (Listening, Reading, Speaking & Writing). They use English across the varying real-life situations in particular to the work-place environment in Hong Kong during the lessons or assignments.
The VES, which is comprised of 5-module studies, is chiefly offered and run by the Vocational Training Council of Hong Kong (VTC).
Upon successful completion of all the modules of the VES, learners are considered as having attained an English Language qualification equivalent to the required HKDSE English Language level for the admission to those Higher Diploma programmes offered by the Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education or Hong Kong Design Institute of the VTC.
The faces of the ERC are known as the English Ambassadors. They are the students who promote the use of English at school, lead the activities in the ERC, and serve as ambassadors to the English language. They are the backbone of the REC, without them it would just be an empty room.
This year we have significantly more English Ambassadors than previously. They are structured as an organisation with different committees within an English Society.
Heading up the English Society is Lydia Kwong (Chairperson), Samantha Sung (Vice Chairperson), Coco Lo (Vice Chairperson), Kristy Chan (Secretary), and Angel Lee (Treasurer).
The English Resource Centre (ERC) is located on the 2nd floor of our school, next to the activity room. This is the school’s English room – where students can be immersed in an English environment. We offer lunch time activities according to the following schedule:
Mondays: English Café Students are welcome to come hang out in the ERC. They can order some coffee and a snack while they chat to the English Ambassadors.
Tuesdays: Games and music Students can come to the ERC to play board games, play on the iPads, watch music videos or even, if they are brave, sing some karaoke.
Wednesdays: Movies and TV shows Students can come to the ERC to watch some TV shows or movies.
Thursdays: Closed for English Ambassador Meetings
Fridays: Crafts Come show your artistic side on Fridays, when we will craft, bake and learn some hands-on skills!
We have three new English panel members this year. We are very happy to welcome Ms Lau, Ms Chan and Ms Tsang to the English Department. We look forward to working with them for many years to come!
